In recognition of Neopets' 10th birthday, a variety of celebrations were held in early and mid-November 2009. These ranged from item giveaways, featured NC Mall items, limited edition pet releases, trivia questions and even an avatar! All these events were featured on the Neopets 10th Birthday Celebration hub page (which is unfortunately no longer available).

In the week leading up to Neopets' birthday, an item giveaway was held. Each day, your average birthday-celebrating Neopian would have three glittery, brightly-coloured gift boxes to choose from. Clicking on a gift box would give Neopoints, a regular birthday item, or an exclusive 10th Birthday item.

Neopets' 10th Birthday: November 15
There were all sorts of unusual celebrations to mark a very special event in Neopia's history. Instead of three gift boxes to choose from at the hub page, on the big day there was just one. Everyone received the same prize.

Released: November 15, 2009
Over the course of the day, several LE pet species were unexpectedly released at varying times and intervals. Released species included the Chomby, Cybunny, Hissi, Jetsam, Kiko, Koi, Poogle and Tonu. Lutaris, Draiks and Krawks were not released.
Game scores could be sent 10 times on the day and for the following week, instead of the usual 5. This was later extended to 10 sends a day for the rest of the year. There were, however, some glitches, which meant players resorted to entering the World Challenge in order to send the full 10 scores.
As well as the special 10th birthday celebrations, there were also the usual Neopian birthday treats, including:
- Use of the Birthday site theme
- Release of the Happy Birthday! avatar
- Free soup from the Soup Faerie for Neopians with less than 3000NP
- Brain Tree reward increase of 25%
- Increased chances of something happening at Coltzan's Shrine
- Treasure of the Black Pawkeet is free today and 150NP for the rest of the month.
- Free spins of the Wheel of Excitement
- Free training from the Swashbuckling Academy
- Increased ticket sales at the Ticket Booth
The Afterparty: November 15-24
After all the birthday festivities were over, the fun continued with a daily trivia question on the birthday hub page. Neopoint item prizes were awarded for a correct answer. All the questions were about events and features from Neopian history.

For that reason, it is recommended that you’re sure you would like to zap him by going to the Neopets Laboratory Map section of the game, where you will find the Yellow Scorchio scientist and zap him.A second way is to fight the Lab Ray Scientist by himself, in the Battledome. However you will have to note that this is not recommended if you’re zapping a pet you like, because he will have the possibility to change species and colours, and he will be able to lose strength, defence and agility points. However, to have him as a challenger, you will also have to purchase the Laboratory Map Set and from there you will have a chance to have him as a challenger. Change a neopets gender. If your Neopet gender was Male, he will turn into a Female, and if the Neopet was Female in the first place, she will turn into a Male. He will have a Strange Potion that is equipped with him, and if he manages to fire it at you, you will then see that the gender of your Neopet has changed, whether you like it or not.
